About the Department  

With the objectives of developing quality manpower in agroforestry and environment; conducting basic and applied research in agroforestry and environment; and transferring the agroforestry and environmental technologies to the farm people, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) has been offering M.S degree in        Agroforestry and Environment since 1996. The Department offering all sorts of    possible services related to agroforestry and environment to the Government and NGO organizations as well as to the farmers. Besides, collaborative research with the other national and international institutes/universities are undertaken for the benefits of academic, research and outreach programmes of BSMRAU.

Achievements
 
  • Seventeen students received MS degree in different aspects of Agroforestry and Environment (up to June 2003).
  • About 30 crop species have been screened at different light levels for selecting the best species for different Agroforestry systems.
  • Developed alley cropping system for sustainable crop production and soil health improvement for upland ecosystem.
  • Evaluated chemical composition, decomposition and nutrient release pattern of 20 common tree/shrub species used in Agroforestry systems.
